HDMI

I have so much to learn about HDMI now that I have an HDTV and a Playstation 3. I am not exactly sure how it all works, do I need HDMI switches? Do I need other special wires than the one I bought the other day? I get so confused, maybe I should have hired the Geek Squad to help me or something!
